It's faster if you submit it yourself. Use the "Report Missing Variant" function found in the listings for individual books. - Navigate to the specific book that is missing a variant.
- Select the 'Variants' tab found next to 'Values'.
- You should see a red box titled "! Report Missing Variants" on the right side below any listed variants.
- Clicking the box will bring up a page where you can enter information specific to the variant you are reporting. This includes what it's called, price, artist, publication date, etc. This makes it much faster for the admins to process the request.
Be patient, it may take weeks/months. See this post for how to check on variants you've submitted: https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic15583-new-feature-related-to-variants.aspx

Need Help Finding TPB's and FCBD Titles

This would be better suited to the Help Locating / Identifying Comics board, but maybe more people that need this help will see it here.
I've likely posted a link to my search tips to you in other posts, but not gonna go check, so read my tips in the 4th post down on this thread: https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic12110-evil-ernie-youth-gone-wild-directors-cut.aspx
the part you're asking about: Annuals, Specials, hardcovers, trade paperbacks, Free Comic Book Day/FCBD for regular series are usually not listed separately, but sometimes are, so mostly they're under the regular series name, click that, then click the appropriate tabs to see those issues. Can be tricky to find with all the reboots and cross-over production years.
also try using 'free comic book day' and then FCBD in the title search along with the comic title, a good number come up that way, but not all, shortening the time it takes a huge title to load till you can click the FCBD tab. I think they ALL should be searchable that way, but I think I was told they stopped listing them that way due to the time it takes with all the new FCBD stuff put out every year now, so they just put them under the FCBD tab now.
If you search just 'free comic book day' as exact phrase it comes up with 119 issues, and using just FCBD comes up with 122, so obviously there's more than that, that don't come up using those terms in the title search, but at least issues in that group are faster to find.
On titles that have multiple volumes it may be hard to figure out which volume has what TPB or FCBD issue you're looking for, but if you know the year of the issue, you can figure out what volume covered that year. For TPBs it can also depend on what part of the series or Volume it collected. The publisher may put out several editions over time that collect a vol.1 series, so that will still be under the Vol. 1 title and not the later volumes. Some FCBD I think will be under only the Vol. 1 title's FCBD tab, so good to check that if you can't find it under a newer volume.
So hopefully that will help. edited by collectibleshop on 12/16/2020 |

could be these, but no pics: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/ultimate-spider-man/rirsm
if that's not them, here's a better resource for pics and info: picture gallery: https://www.comics.org/series/163499/covers/ (also has the X-Men ones to help fill in those covers, which anyone can copy and submit) creators list: https://www.comics.org/series/163499/details/creator_list/ , which anyone can submit too.
comics.org says these are published in Canada, but CPG says Komikai is US, but either way they're not under Canada or All Countries that I saw.. It would be a bit odd to have the X-Men ones and not the Spideys, unless those keychain ones are them.
So Ronbatman can chime in and see if he can figure out what's up. |

Value When Submitting to CGC

I recently made a large submission to CGC. To estimate value I went with the Overstreet 9.2 grade value since they didn't specify graded or ungraded. Only two books were over $200 by that criteria so I submitted them at standard tier. The rest I submitted at modern tier and valued at $200 each. We'll see if any get bumped up.
Overstreet value is for ungraded, and if you sent in any possible 9.8 issues, the graded market value could be well higher and over the tier thresholds, but CGC will let you know or just charge the difference. again, they want the GRADED value submitted, and you can do auction searches or pay to join gpanalysis for a month and see graded values, and hope there's some fairly current ones to go by. but since you've sent a batch in already, there's no point in paying for GPA till your next batch.
$200+ 9.2 OPG value books can be over $1000 graded value if high grade, so that affects the tier, plus the insured value, so you gotta hope nothing happens them with return shipping, cuz you'll only get the $200 declared value (IF the P.O. or UPS agrees to pay), regardless if CGC bumps it up. Good luck on 'em. |

always give as much info as you can. I saw 2 covers in the database that pretty much met your description, but after googling and checking comics.org (who didn't have pics either) I saw that the ones you're talking about were Unknown Comics Exclusives, and not the ones in the database. That info would have been helpful. I did a few google image and text searches, and on that auction site, and Unknown Comics site, and didn't find any good square-on pics to copy. So, if you own them and have a scanner or good camera.... It's faster if you submit them yourself. Take good square-on pics/scans, .jpg format preferred, cropped to the edges. he means first printing. if you're not sure if it's a 1st print, look on the inside, 1st page usually (sometimes last page), and at the bottom it will have the publishing info. generally 1st prints will NOT say first print, but 2nd print onward they will say that, so if it doesn't say it's a later printing, it's usually a 1st print. sometimes the cover art is different on later printings too, and some state on the cover if it's a later printing, depends on the publisher. |

...the primary cover (A) will be what was more readily at the time.
Here's my thoughts....It shouldn't matter what was more available or which version was the 'main' type back in the 80s/90s. We're not IN the 80s/90s any more, and CPG has only recently begun to catalog and show both versions, so it's not like they were doing that back in the 80s/90s and don't want to change the A/B designation now. It may be a royal pain to flip them now, or it may be a fairly simple code change, that would also change everyone's collection at the same time, I dunno.
But the OP has a point about consistency. To me it's more important for consistency in this case, and that means sticking with one A/B choice to make it easier for people who have both and collect both to keep things straight in their CPG collection. Who cares what was more prevalent when? It's not 'when' now, it's now, and everything for a long time now has a bar code, and it would make it so much easier when adding issues and verifying submissions and submitting the correct pics if Direct Market was always A and newsstand was always B. It's especially annoying when the designation is changed in the middle of a series. I've made a few verify mistakes when there's several issues in a row with direct and newsstand submissions in a series, and it flips after a number of them, so I click the nope instead of yup, or submit a pic of the wrong version cuz what was A is now B, and I have to go delete and submit again. Consistency is key and more important than ancient history that most collectors these days have no idea about, or care, they just want both versions, or one or the other, and easiness of cataloging them..
Not gonna take the time to hunt down Ron's post about that to see if he mentioned if it would be a big pain to change things now, so he can chime in and let us know. Maybe start a poll too, if enough members would see it and bother to vote. |

First of all, any change isn't a simple flip of a switch. Each book is individually set, because there are differences like Canadian Price Variant, British Pound Variant, Newsstand, and Direct. We talked about this internally when the decision was made to add in the thousands of Newsstand issues. Our thought process was that the most common issue should be first so that more people wouldn't have to go to the variant page. It's not about being back in the '80s or '90s it's about what best suits the majority of people. I can appreciate the consistency argument because we strive to be consistent in our wording and with the organization of the site. To us, this is consistent.
Whenever we make a change, some people aren't happy with the choice. It's our daily life. As leaders, we have to make choices that we think helps the most people. I'm sorry that you don't like the way it's organized because I do value your input, Charles. Ron
Well, I didn't think it would be a simple thing to change, but wasn't sure if a 'find and replace' command could be done, but since the code can't SEE the comic image, I guess it couldn't determine which A or B was which. So since it won't be easy, that's kills it getting changed.
It doesn't affect me much as I don't track my collection here, and don't buy anymore, but it does for those who do, and I'd think it's FAR more annoying to constantly have to change between which version is A and B part way thru a run, or entering a older series or newer series, than 'go thru the variant page', which I'm not sure what you mean there.
I'll defer to your all's decision, but I think it's flawed and came to the wrong conclusion as to what best serves the majority or is easiest to do/follow/pay attention to. Consistently using A and B across all ages that have them seems far more logical and easier to follow than jumping back and forth in a run or entering an older series that had more newsstand prints, then entering a newer series that had more direct market prints, and having to flip what A and B covers are. Same for anyone adding cover images to the database, or verifying them, which as I noted, is where it trips me up sometimes, but I try to pay more attention now that I know A/B covers aren't consistent.
So I might keep this thread bookmarked for when others come along and ask, and I suggest Ron and others who help out here do the same, as it will get asked again.
Thanks for the info Ron, now I'll get back to more verifying and sending you stuff to fix edited by collectibleshop on 1/6/2021 |

I don't have 1, but every major comic site I checked on a search has it at $5.95 for the direct edition, and I didn't find any newsstands except for 1 on that auction site, and they never mention cover price. So I'd go with what the marvel sites and mycomicshop and comics.org etc say, so $5.95. So that would make CPG's newsstand price wrong, which you can change, O' Mighty Gilgandra, right?

well, color me embarrassed. When I did searches for the SDCC one, which has IDW in the lower left corner, I assumed CPG's pic was wrong, as I thought why make TWO facsimile editions, with only a minor cover change, just to hand out 1 at SDCC? So far CPG has not responded to my mistaken correction/submission, so will check with Ronbatman about it. Can't win 'em all.
You can submit the SDCC one yourself. I've posted this info a ton of times now: Take good square-on pics/scans, .jpg format preferred, cropped to the edges. (your link to IDW doesn't work, so I went there and found their pic.) If you can't, then find them on the net, with no watermarks, and no signatures. Use the "Report Missing Variant" function found in the listings for individual books. Navigate to the specific book that is missing a variant.- Select the 'Variants' tab found next to 'Values'.
- You should see a red box titled "! Report Missing Variants" on the right side below any listed variants.
- Clicking the box will bring up a page where you can enter information specific to the variant you are reporting. This includes what it's called, price, artist, publication date, etc. This makes it much faster for the admins to process the request.

actually they're 'missing' most of the newsstand editions of that title, and 1 direct ed. at least. they are working their way alphabetically to add newsstand covers, so it'll be a while till they get to the T's, so if you want to contribute to the process, here's what you can do to help.
You can submit 'variant' covers like newsstands yourself. Take good square-on pics/scans, .jpg format preferred, cropped to the edges. Comics.org is a good resource for pics. Here's their gallery for Toxic Crusaders: https://www.comics.org/series/4480/covers/ . They only have 2 newsstands, and not #1's, but it's a start. Copy the pics by right clicking on them and opening it in a new tab and save that image. That way you don't have to reload the main gallery every time. If you own any newsstand issues and can scan them, you can upload those too. don't need to be huge, comics.org size is good (400x626 pixels give or take). I'll send the direct edition of #2 in to an admin, as directs aren't variants, although I guess they could be submitted that way too.
