IMHO though when your grading scale is both anal but you allow exceptions and qualified grades your grading scale is pretty much compromised.
Yup. |

You have to do it from the "other" part of the site, not in the forums.
- go back to home
- search up a member in the community feature
- look to the top right but under the black bar where it'll have a small profile summary and a blue button says "Message Me"

Hey, Ron,
I have a question about whites that have yellowed over time. Do any of the cleaning processes help restore the whiteness if the cover has yellowed a little? Thor 337 has a lot of white on the cover (and the cover paper is really thin, too!) |

Yeah those glue bindings from the mid 1970's are really difficult to keep nice. Spine roll is really difficult and the 'wear factor' is very high on the glue binding, on top of the original state not being super accurate to begin with. The staple bindings had a higher degree of accuracy than the glue bindings, it seems to me.
I just picked up a 9.4 Batman Family #6 (with Duella Dent, aka (at that time) The Joker's Daughter) and it was not cheap. But I had one as a kid and thought it'd be nice to have a really good copy now, so.... |

Is a glue binding a good candidate for cleaning and pressing, Ron?
That "9.0" could look a lot better if it were cleaner. The chips will be there, still, but I wonder if pressing might exacerbate the glue messiness I think I see on the white in the back? |

Yeah, that makes very little sense. There is a cost to getting something graded, and that grade once it is done and paid for stands as a "third party" opinion for the condition of the book on any future transaction. That alone is worth "Something."
For a lot of modern books, though, the CGC grade is correctly worth "Not Much" since there is potentially (still) a large population of books in great condition that are ungraded. |

Feature request - Sales and want lists addition

I was just perusing the for sale offerings of one member (he has a good amount of the DC mystery/horror/occult title) and I found myself rather annoyed at the prospect of reaching out over single issues, when I'd be more interested in assembling a pile of books to discuss/"haggle" over. I'd like to see a way to search a seller's listings and assemble something like a shopping cart, but call it a "stack of books" and then place a bulk offer on that. The whole thing should be driven to allow for a back and forth before a deal is completed.
Other things I noticed:
- Individual Books for sale do not link through to the cpg entry for the book.
- I'd prefer that 9.4 rated books for sale are required to supply a photo, because of the default value for collection entry being 9.4
- The paging function for sellers' books for sale is very strange. it claims to show 50 entries but almost never does, the "next" tag nearly always returns no results even when paging from the seller's books with no alphabetic filter applied.
- The phone app(s) could be a great way for sellers to add photos of their books for sale. Let them authorize the app to use a dropbox account (or similar) take the photos store them immediately in the cloud and then use the link for the listing.

Is the first appearance of Jason Todd noted as the first appearance of the Red Hood?!
Jason Todd debuted in Batman #357 (March 1983) and made his first full appearance in Detective Comics #525 (April 1983), but it wasn't until later that year when he would appear in costume as Robin in Batman #366 (Dec 1983) when he showed up towards the end of the story to help Batman fight the Joker. Red Hood appears in Batman #625, as a character whose identity is Jason Todd. |

That link is pretty good. I would say that one thing that worked very well for me was to use pallet wrap on the boxes. I didn't worry about the handles, but I wrapped each box very heavily. Another nice thing: the wrap sticks to itself, so once the boxes are placed inside a moving container, they all sort of "glue" into one big object instead of tipping or slipping. (But I never had to move by cargo ship, either.) |

Comic Age Question

If it is open for discussion, I might suggest the modern age actually begins with something by Frank Miller, either Dark Knight Returns, or Ronin.
If the Modern Age is to be characterized by the ascendancy of the roles of artists and storytellers as "Stars, in their own right" then that is close to where it begins. |

This is a Lesson, Ron: All new features are for Silver & Gold members and are merely touted to the free users, as valuable features they would have if they spent the price of 10 new comic books, yearly to manage their collection and stay appraised of its value. edited by rgtichy on 5/1/2021 |

The feature is brand new, and they had little if any idea just how many "changes to value" would be normal for their members, in any two week period. So they set a limit on how many the free member would get to see, before realizing the free members were seeing all of their price changes. And if you were seeing all of your price changes, then there wasn't much reason to upgrade your account to get more of the feature.
The error was at the beginning, when they gave the Bronze members too much, and then later took away some of that. You are right, that they took something from you, but if we only look at that new feature, they had nothing to give more of to Silver and Gold members, as you suggested.
I wasn't being hostile to you as a Bronze member, per se. I was making the point that they would not have to take something away from Bronze members, if they gave it first to the Silver and Gold members, then learned what they want to give to Bronze members. Specifically to avoid the appearance of taking something away later. edited by rgtichy on 5/3/2021 |

We call that "going parabolic" in the stock market.

I don't see the character in the striped shirt as Sting or Constantine, in SotSW 25.

I looked at a guy's collection that is for sale.
I was in his Comico publisher set, and Elementals said "41 issues" and I think I didn't remember the run being that long... I click into Elementals and can only find 28 "issues" but there's really only 6 issues with many copies or "comics".
1. The terminology seems muddled. 2. The counting mechanism seems wrong, too. |

The "Celluloid" age begins with movie adaptations galore?
The Spider-Man trilogy, followed by Iron Man is in my mind, the moment when comics crossed over "forever" into a new age where recycling and refining the storylines for the movie medium took precedence.
Going "52" and "Dark" everything was how DC brought itself into alignment with making movies from their characters, for real... |
