This one has me stumped and my cpg-fu has been rendered inert. Since this contains mostly Uncanny X-Men annuals I looked for trades, annuals, and specials under X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. Here's more info from mycomicshop.com: https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=312991 |

It looks like this has been fixed already, but if you find you've made an mistake in the future you can do one of two things: 1) Find a TARDIS, go back in time, and find a creative way to stop yourself from entering the incorrect data. (a strategically placed sticky-note can be helpful) or... 2) You have the power to fix it yourself!!!
If you go to to 'Price Guide' > 'Help Verify Data' and then choose the 'Creators' tab you can use the publisher pull-down to find Marvel. Navigate to 'I' and then find the data line you submitted in error. Since you created the submission you should see an orange trash can to the right. Clicking this will allow you to delete the incorrect submission. This works unless the submission has already been approved.

YOUR OLD TOYS
solarno
|
I'm not sure I'd want any of the toys from my youth in boxes, because then I wouldn't have the memories of actually playing with them, and that's where the value lies for me. For the most part, the toys that meant the most to me I still have and I keep a lot of them on display as they represent who I am and where I've been. This means they are dusty or dirty, with yellowing plastic and peeling stickers, and in some cases broken. But I'd have them no other way. Below is a pic of some of my geeky childhood friends currently inhabiting my apartment. The Robotech/Transformers (Jetfire) toys seen here are all from their respective first runs and over 30 years old. Jetfire has a broken arm. The SDF-1 right side main cannon appendage is just resting. The Alpha fighter is missing it's gun and spring-launched missiles. The Cyclone barely visible on the right has broken attachment pins so accessories no longer attach. I am the original owner of these toys and they brought me countless hours of enjoyment playing with them. Re-enacting scenes, making up new ones, or in the case of articulated toys, just putting them in funny poses.

In general I've never been a fan of keeping things in boxes, kept separate from the world I live in. To me, toys in boxes are lifeless, emotionless artifacts. The fun and joy from them doesn't come into existence until you've touched them and figured out what they might do. Perhaps, flown them through imaginary space. Or have been driven through imaginary car chases on the living room floor. Or battled across an alien landscape created by messed up bedding.
If I received brand new versions of any of toys of my youth, the first thing I'd do is pull them out of the box, slap the stickers on, and play with them. Tell new stories with them, or better yet, have them battle their twin doppelgängers from the past. But most importantly, I'd have fun with them. 'Tis a difficult thing to do when they are trapped behind cello and cardboard.

This is one of the reasons why I've been doing a lot with feeding the CPG megacomputer with creator info. It gives me an excuse to pull out old books and enjoy them again. Too many times they get placed in a box, never to see the light of day again. |

Downloaded! Initial impressions: Clean, easy to navigate, love the quick access to my personal collection and want list. Already picked up my pull for this week so haven't had a chance to use it in the real world, but I'm looking forward to finally having access to my collection when I'm looking through back issues and can't remember if I own a particular book or not.
Just used it to add a few books from my pull to my collection. Pretty slick. Cheers! Jim |

DC Nation #0 retailer variants
solarno
|
So it looks like in anticipation for Free Comic Book Day 2018, DC allowed retailers to have their store logo printed on the main cover along with custom artwork on the back cover. These are shown as #0 Presented by (insert shop logo here) Example here: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/03/01/comic-stores-dc-nation-0-order-5000/
I have no idea how many retailers took advantage of this opportunity, but I know my local retailer (Arsenal Comics & Games, Newbury Park, CA) did. Does anyone have an idea of how many retailers did this, and more importantly, should CPG display each one as a variant? Seems like the listing could end up with dozens of variants that are all the same save for a retailer logo on the cover. There is already one listed in the CPG database for Midtown.

The New Comics Price Guide App

I had my first opportunity to use the new app in the wild at my local shop on Free Comic Book Day. Needed to confirm whether I had a few trades already or not. With the app it took me literally a few moments to confirm that I did not already have the trades I was looking at. So much easier and faster than my old way of logging into the full site and trying to navigate my way through my collection to whatever I was looking for. The full site, as thorough as it is, is pretty lousy on a smart phone.
For those of you curious about the app, but apprehensive about the $2 buy, it's well worth it. I've now used it to log new buys, and to confirm previous ones. Works as I would expect it too. Three thumbs up! Now if only it could order a pizza for me. |

Any Store Owners on here?
solarno
|
I think you'll also find that many shop owners are supplementing their in-store sales with eBay (or other online) sales, which any of us who have sold on eBay knows is a complete crap-shoot. If most are like my local shop, eBay sales may bring in a nice chunk of gross dollars because you can reach a national or global market, but once you factor in labor for the listings, various seller fees, and shipping, the actual profit from them is minimal at best.
A lot will also depend on how much marketing a shop is doing, attending community events, holding in-store events, etc. My local guy's business definitely ebbs and flows with the amount of time he can spend managing his social media presence for any upcoming events the store is a part of.
But as Ron said, very few store owners will be willing to discuss their actual revenues with anyone outside of their partners, accountants, and vendors. That will be the same in any industry. |

How to know how much shipping is when selling comi
solarno
|
The best option may depend on what you are shipping. How many books at a time? How often? Where are they going? What is the value?
- Regardless of the value I want to make sure that what I'm shipping arrives in exactly the same condition I sent it in. This means using a box when possible. I found some great adjustable boxes on Amazon that will work for one book (with a couple pieces of filler chipboard) and all the way up to 20 or so books. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BT5JDE4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 You have to buy 50 at a time though, so that could be cost prohibitive if you're not mailing very often.
- I almost always use USPS Priority Mail. It's fast and includes a tracking number along with small amount of insurance. If you're entire package weights less than 16oz. you can use USPS First Class Mail, but you don't get the insurance or tracking.
- If you don't have boxes, USPS Priority Mail Flat-Rate envelopes are a great way to go. They're free at your local post office, and you can stuff them with as much that will fit and it will ship for $6.70 to anywhere in the US. (If you are selling through eBay, they offer discounted USPS rates) If you are using envelopes you really should reinforce with sheets of cardboard to stiffen the envelope. There's nothing worse than getting a comic in the mail and having it all bent up.
- Media Mail - Technically you cannot use Media Mail to ship comics as they contain ads. It doesn't happen often, but the USPS has the right to open Media Mail packages to confirm they meet the rather strict standards. Plus, media mail can take considerably longer to arrive. Personally, I don't find the small savings worth the hassle from a customer service standpoint.
- When possible I will also put the books I'm shipping in a sealed plastic bag before putting them in the box/envelope. This offer another layer of protection to the books in case of moisture damage to the outer packaging. I do this even if the the books are already bagged and boarded as comic bags are not fully sealed.
- I've found that my actual shipping costs will range from right around $3-4 for a first class mailing, depending on how far it must travel; $6.70 for Flat Rate Service; and regular Priority Mail will range between $7 to $13 depending on the weight and distance.
- Packaging costs can range anywhere from free to up to $2 per shipment.
- I recommend against just basic manila envelopes, or even cheap "padded" envelopes as they can be damaged very easily during shipping.
This is all moot if you are shipping internationally, or not based in the US.
Hope this helps, Cheers! Jim edited by solarno on 6/4/2018 |
