So What Pulled You Back Into Collecting?

Well, I'll tell my story in case anybody decides to check out the thread. It sure would be nice to have an active board along the lines of the old CBR boards, but it's a different world over there now (I was banned because I didn't fall in line with their pc agenda, and they don't like opposing viewpoints), and the other forums I've found are pretty dead. Anyway, this is actually my third venture into comics. The first comic I got was either Avengers 130 or ASM 139, I'm not sure which. I just remember that I was hooked pretty quick after that, and would buy Marvel comics whenever we made a trip to the drugstore or grocery store. I used to sit a the magazine rack reading comics while Mom shopped for groceries, and back then, nobody cared. I remember reading Hulk 180 in the grocery store, and I also remember the day I bought Giant Size X-Men 1, all because I saw it had Wolverine in it. When I got a little older, I began to focus on Amazing Spider-Man & Avengers only. A friend and I set the goal to get both series 100-up, in Mint condition (there was no NM back then), and I got a lot of them. But I started having other interests and eventually quit buying the new issues, and after working the entire summer of my 15th birthday, I was able to get my first car, and fixing it up was my main priority then. I sold what was left of my collection after I burned off my first set of tires and had no way to replace them. Then, in my senior year of high school, I was at a friend's and noticed a stack of X-Men. This was in 1984, and he had issues going back to the 120's, and he let me take them home and read them. That reignited my passion, and I started collecting again. No real goals this time, but I was able to acquire some really nice books, and even got a summer job at a comic shop. Once again, I sold my collection (except for my cream of the crop books) so I would have some money in the bank at Auburn. The first weekend after I moved there, I got a DUI. Since I wasn't working and could barely survive on my meager finances, I had to sell the remaining comics to pay for fines, lawyer fees, etc. That was in 1986. I didn't buy another comic until 2010. I assume it's because I watched all the superhero movies, and they always brought back memories, but it just took that long for me to finally get the itch. I wasn't even sure I would still enjoy reading comics anymore, but I ordered some back issues and also bought a few new ones from the lcs in town, and I had a good time. Slowly, I began ordering back issues and eventually became a Weds regular at my lcs. After awhile it became an obsession. I easily completed my childhood goals (not in Mint condition though) and actually went much further. I've completed or very nearly completed a large chunk of the Marvel titles since 1962, and even have a ton of DC. I'm in a position where I only have utitilies, insurance, and living expenses every month, and the rest I can spend how I want, which has been comics for the last 7 years. The only thing about buying at that rate is that I fell behind reading a long time ago, and that's become a source of stress for me. When I'm able to overcome the mental block I've created, I'll have a lot to choose from. Until then, I'll just keep adding.
Some of us are still here. Thanks for sharing. |

My collection is in a finished part of the basement with a dehumidifier running keepin it at 50% and a radon fan also going and I've had no issues with anything. I built a 13 inch table top deal to keep my boxes off the ground in case my subpump goes out or something. So if put ur collection in the basement gets you to keep them then go for it π Getting boxes off the floor and having a dehumidifier are excellent enhancements! Just my opinion. |

If this was done at the printer, it is fine. Suggest you leave as is. I have a few comics with pages cut slightly large in exterior corners - My opinion is - there is no change in the grade of the comic due to this - if it is the way it came from the publisher. |

Year 1992 to 1994
Pricing is $1.25 to $2.50 depending on issue.
As Gilga noted - there is no title called "Eclipso". Look up Deathstroke, Green Lantern, etc. Ecliipso was a story in annuals across a large number of comics - so it is a story line, not a comic title.. Can be confusing.

People put books on here all the time for sale without accepting offers. They don't have to accept an offer. Some NEVER even RESPOND to offers. Some are just getting a feel for what interest there is for a book. Some just don't pay attention. Some like MOREDWHIT, only want to sell books in lots, he's a great seller, sells a lot of books, some people don't want to buy "lots" but you can't you can't complain about it. I think "ROCKYOURWORLD" is kinda like that, doesn't want to spend a lot of time dealing with "onesy, twosy" deals. I've dealt with him and have got REALLY, really good "package" deals. He's never "scammed" me. You probably shouldn't bad mouth people about how they sell their books unless they actually rip you off by selling bad books or by stealing your money. Remember, any fair price is one both parties agree to. ......................Just my two cents
I do my best to treat people with respect and respond. Even if the book has already sold. What this world needs is more courtesy! Just my opinion. |

Start at the top CPG menu - Select "About" then in pull down menu select "How to Use CPG" . This is where to start.
When you are comfortable enough using CPG it is fairly easy to look up comics and titles. Remember in the search engine the less you put in the more results you will likely get.
My opinion is you just have to dig in and learn along the way!

Canadian price variants

Devo
Hmmm. I had seen comics priced in US dollars, UK Peence and Canadian dollars all on the cover. These are common in the 1980s. What you have here is the true "Canadian only" cover print explained in more details than you will ever want to know here https://rarecomics.wordpress.com/2016/04/05/75-cent-variants-canadian-newsstand-editions/
Suggest you add request in correct forum to add comics to the database here at CPG.
I did find these listed at comic book realms http://comicbookrealm.com. At the Realm website list price there is the same as the US price for all grades.
Also listed at my comic shop here https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=13370191
There does appear to be a bump in price for high grade on these - at least for asking price.
This would be very difficult to price. My risk/reward meter would tell me to pass, personally. If you like them, enjoy!

Signed Prints and Comics!
kds_comics
|
As noted, there is no guide for signatures from comic book artists. It is simply suggestive.
The price of an autograph is very subjective. Many artists sign a lot of comics (I know George Perez must have signed thousands of comics). Stan Lee in 1990's would sign anything to promote Marvel.
Some folks prefer their comics pristine - without signatures, so would not pay extra for signatures (Grinch!)
This is my PERSONAL OPINION - price of an artist autograph is probably $2 to $10. I like to have artist sign, but that is just me. . I usually add $3 - $5 to the price of a comic for well know artists or writers like Mike Grell, George Perez or Marv Wolfman. (Check my inventory - or email me if you want to know which are signed!) It depends on the comic condition as well. A hot artist from today is worth more. Just supply and demand.
Again - just my opinion

What year is it from please? Is it the ten cent cover from 1940's or a later Batman Series?
Only the realty early covers have value; someone may have a cover-less comic and can put the two together. Not work effort on comics worth $10 or less. (Too much time put into venture).
Otherwise - common comics that are incomplete are getting a second life as Decoupage. You can send to me if it has no value - I will do something with it. I am sure a lobbyist is your area would be interested.
