Hey Deadone, nice to see you are still lurking like myself. Nice bong icon by the way.
I figured the bong icon was put on the list of smilies for just such an occasion. I like this one, too. Good to see you around also, HR. Keep up with the good advice. |

I don't like the new board software or category arrangements. I used to submit scans and missing issue information but the delays were too long. I'm not going to waste my time if they can't keep up. Price updates were lagging behind too. I think the site needs to publish hard copies of their price info so they have an income stream and tool to attract new user to the site that want to contribute. I'm posting now because I'm on a 2-1/2 week vacation. Chances are that I won't be back for awhile one I start back into the crunch at work.

Hey everybody.
For most of 2017, I have been really focused on Horror, SciFi, and Fantasy Magazines from the late 60's through the early 1980's. I've been cycling through these fairly quickly, reading and enjoying for a small while then moving on to the next title. Nothing really worth keeping (sorry Ox, no Savage Tales #1) but a few nice issues I'll hang onto for a while including nice raw copies of Deadly Hands Of Kung Fu #22 and Marvel Super Action #1.
I've been laid back when it comes to buying and have been letting the books come to me (so to speak) and not actively searching for anything specific. I'll probably continue this throughout 2018 and focus on just becoming a little bit more organized.
Hope everyone is doing well. |

Deadone, I'm guessing that there are a lot of strange and wonderfully terrifying things in your collection. What is your favorite book? Story? Artist?
I dabble in 70's horror but just the DC and Marvel stuff. Mike Ploog fan as you can tell by my video and article. http://blog.comicspriceguide.com/2018/02/13/mike-ploogs-best-comic-cover-art/ Although I did pick up an Eerie magazine recently and it was awesome. Ron
My collection, if you can really call it a collection, it fairly tame. Most single issues generally only find a home with me for a short bit. Right now I only really hold onto hardcover collected editions because they fit nicely into what little display space that I have. As for my favorite artist, when it comes to the older magazines, is a fairly close, three-way tie between Frazetta, Wrightson, and Sanjulian with Bernie Wrightson probably leading between those three. My favorite story is "Jenifer", written by Bruce Jones and illustrated by Wrightson in the pages of Warren's Creepy magazine. Although my love for this story was probably ingrained in my head from seeing the live action story portrayed in Showtime's Masters of Horror series quite a few years ago.
Ploog is great, and his work on Ghost Rider was a favorite of mine when I was younger. A lot of work in the early Warren horror magazines as well.
Eerie's a great title. Worth picking up more if you ever have the chance. It's hard to hold a regular sized comic after handling magazines for an extended period of time. They're just so hefty. |

Bruce Jones, did he also write Twisted Tales series? Enjoyed that. Most of my magazines I bought and still own are of Conan. But own a sprinkling of Eerie, Creepy, and Vampirella. Magazine size is perfect for reading but the need of a magazine box to store them and finding a good place to store sucks for me. I end up using part of the boxes to store slabs instead of magazines. The deadone lives again, nice hearing from you, been too long! I was called headrush before the changes! I knew that HR... I still lurk around from time to time. Good to hear from you my friend.
Bruce Jones did do Twisted Tales as well as Alien Worlds, both from Pacific Comics.
This past year I also completed not one but TWO complete Savage Sword of Conan runs, one higher grade and one lower/mid-grade. Not on purpose mind you, it just kind of happened. lol I also picked up a complete Marvel Premiere Classic hardcover collection (107 hardcovers total). In theory, it looked a lot easier to display than it turned out. That's a lot of books.
I'm still a big Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan. In 2018, I plan on finishing up my collection of the hardcover Library Editions of both Buffy and Angel/Faith. It shouldn't be too hard, but I'm cheap and that makes it a bit harder.
Great thread HR. Keep the fires burning. edited by deadone on 2/23/2018 |

Ha! If I remember correctly you were the biggest Buffy fan on here and didn’t you sell it all off years ago? I mean you were collecting everything Buffy even the extremely hard to find Buffy books and just stopped and sold off the collection? Am I wrong? Either way, good to hear you collecting the hardcovers. I bought the trades from dark horse of Savage Sword of Conan years ago, just fun reading. Written well and the art was fantastic. Congratulations on completing two sets, that had to be enjoyable to do. edited by Jokerbangedquinn on 2/24/2018
I did have a complete collection of all things Buffy up through the end of Season Eight, which is when I stopped. The variants that were coming out with the Angel After The Fall Series and beyond killed it for me. It was fun to complete the full set when there was only 1 or 2 variants per issue, but 5, 6+ variants per issue was ridiculous.... so I stopped and sold the collection in one huge chunk to someone in Australia. My completionist mentality could not keep up with my bank account (or my patience) at the time. The trades are much easier for me manage and, to be honest, satisfy my binge-reading nicely. |
