So we all have books that we bought at cover price when the book came out to find a year or so that it is a real hot book and the selling price is now way way bigger than the cover price.
so only list books that you bought new at cover price that turned into a big ticket book. Here are a few of mine I'm glad I bought.

NYX 3. Once I saw the first issue of the series I was hooked, really cool cover. So I ordered 3 of each issues in the series. So I got three copies at cover price of NYX 3.

Harley Quinn 1 Hughes variant. Got two issues of it at cover price. Just followed a auction of one and it just sold for $344.
Things like this makes collecting fun for me.

How about you, list them please.

X-Men #94 - Bought it for cover price and then saw the price rise to $60 a book in ads. It was the comic that taught me to handle them with more care.

Solar #10 (Valiant) - It was selling out everywhere the day it was released. Stores were buying it back for cover price within a few days because they had so many other customers wanting it.

Nice! It took me nearly five years of collecting to worry of how I handled my books. Just wanted to read the books without care.
I was in 5th grade when X-Men 94 came out!

ASM 238 & 300. Batman Vengeance of Bane. I was too late for most of the bronze age 'big' books. You would never find any X-men on the racks (I think some collector guy was buying them all up. It wasn't until 147 that they started to show regularly.

I purchase Iron First 1-15 all for 1 dollar at a bargain bin at a comic book store long ago. I bought because I was a Byrne fan. I got Giant Size X-men1 at a flea market when I was in elementary school with a bunch of other books as well for a few dollars. Very few of my comics in my huge collection were not bought at cover price. I imagine I have over 4700 books purchased at cover price

I would like to add that the following... and much more... were bought at cover price and still in my collection..

Hulk #180, 181
Amazing Spider-Man #121, 122, 129, 238 (3 copies)
Iron Man #55
Giant-Size X-men #1
X-men #94-181 or so

Most other hot Marvel issues from that time period. 1st rocket raccoon in Hulk... cover price.

We can go on forever about the cover price books we bought that went up in value, but you said after "a year or so". The fastest ones I noticed that jumped in value was the Ultimate Spider-Man #1, which was a shock to me because you would think everyone and their mom bought it. But still for some reason it went up a lot in a short time. NYX #3, and that was up to $30 only a month or so after it came out. I also remember buying "The Goon" in the late 90's, just because it was a first issue and the art was cool. Carefully read it, bagged and boarded. I thought it was a junker, then a decade later I checked and it's in the hundreds.

Talking about handling comics and when I started to care...that was when I discovered Ebay and saw all the huge differences in prices between F/VF/NM etc. I sent some books I thought were perfect to CGC, they came back a 9.2 or 9.4. When I read the books now, I'm like a surgeon. My fingers don't touch the book. I use something to turn the pages (a chopstick, a butter knife, whatever is there and clean), and carefully slide that sucker in the bag. At the comic shop I take the entire stack and pick the cleanest ones out of the batch. I just stopped short of asking the comic shop guy not to touch them.....but I digress..

Thinking back to my early teens, would have to be New Mutants #87. That was a $30 book at comicons a few months after it came out, and even the gold reprint was out shortly after. New Mutants #98 took much longer to go up, everyone was banking on Cable blowing up, but Deadpool was the one that became a household name. Remember cosmic spidey? That came out and I was at a convention...one seller was trying to sell it for $5 when it was new, fresh on the rack! ~raz

First Comic i noticed a big jump from what i paid for was my Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose #1, along with 1 of the few variant covers for just issue #1. I paid like 3 or 4 something for it and now it's up in the $50's. The only other Comic i have that really went up and i didn't realize it would ever do so, was my Walking Dead#1 Variant Michael Golden Wizard World issue that i received just for purchasing a Ticket for the day's event. Now its near $200 for its condition with autograph, but only Raw, not CGC graded at this time smile I too enjoy finding neat treasures when i least expect it.
