I'm surprised there's no discussion here about the new CGC case. Any thoughts?

Two questions I have are
1. Is the issue as bad as CBCS is making it sound? (ie they are offering a discount to reslab CGC books at a discount because of the "problems")

2. Has or is the problem being fixed?

It is bad. There is no doubt about it. The Newton rings are just minor compared to the waves on some books and color transfer. Then there is also shifting in the slab. Steve Borock said in his discount post that the way CGC is slabbing now was considered when they were starting up but it proved to be a bad option so they went with the now previous method. I completely agree that is is a really bad idea to have the book stay in place by sustained pressure on the perimeter of the book. I don't know what they were thinking but I think theyh were not thinking about the books at all.

CGC tried to downplay that the problems were "minor" and rare but that is not how it sounds going by reports all over the web. They also claim all is fixed without explain how it was fixed or that there was any "real" problem in the first place.

In other words CGC dropped the ball again on a problem.

I agree, I think what is hurting CGC the most is what appears to be a lack of communication about the problems. If they simply apologized and stated that they are working on fixing the problem, I would have a lot more respect for them.

I just got 2 books back from CGC and I can't see anything obviously wrong. What should I look for? Should I be worried?

You'll have to do a Goggle search, or find Steve Borock's note about the case and the issues with it. The main issues seem to be a 'waviness of some books, colour lift on the inside case (because they are using pressure to hold the book in place, and for older books possibly popped staples or spine cracks (over time). I assume they would not have switched to the new case if the problems were common and easily apparent, so not all are going to have these issues.
