Gris Grimly, huh? Never heard of him. I like what I see in duckduckgo, though; sorta reminds me of The Goon (and a couple other things). And I love The Goon. Can't even find any information on Dolls In The Attic, it's that rare.

BunnyMan? MadCap? I see a trend here...

I have those Avengers issues, I'll have to pull them out for a reread, maybe. (Yikes, I have a tonne of copper/modern Avengers. That might be a good hunk of fat I could trim from my collection. I'll have to think about that. One of these days.)

I'll play. :-)

I have a soft spot for those #1 Image comics due to my age when I started collecting.. so while they are not worth much (anything) I still hold some of them dear. I'll just list a few of those, and branch out to the other companies to round it out. It's hard to lock this down to 5 for sure, but...

Spawn #1 (still collect this one)
Shadow Hawk #1 (I always really liked the look of this guy)
Maxx #1 (I have the complete run, and very much like them all)
Batman #251 - Such a great cover.
NYX #3 - 1st X-23 - I picked up this run when it came out, so it's one of those buys that worked out. I also like to collect key women characters, so this fits in to that theme.

Runners Up... because why not...
Batman Beyond #1 (loved that show growing up)
Batman #222 (a classic cover with my fav band)
Edge of Spider-verse #2 - 1st Spider Gwen
The Amazing Spider-Man #194 - 1st Black Cat
Conan the Barbarian #23 - 1st Red Sonja

yeah, there was a bit of a feeling of 'throw it at the wall and see what sticks' when they first started, A lot of the 'team' books felt a bit derivative but some of them were solid titles. Maxx was by far the most experimental of the first runs and while very cool, I'd agree that it didn't always stick the landing. I keep hearing a movie is in the works, but the same could be said for Spawn. The animated Maxx and Spawn that came out of HBO back in the day were both quite good.

I miss spinner racks. Good memories of turning them round and round to find the best comic that Dad would buy me. Sometimes I'd get lucky and he'd let me pick 2.
