I recently acquired a stack of old comics that had been hidden for decades. They are all ungraded and I suppose "Raw" is the term, however the condition and color is good. Is it worth the price of getting them graded? I added some of them to the "my collection" list. BTW in case it's not obvious.. total comic newbie here.
Thanks!

Not all GA are worth getting graded. But, if some of them are in really good condition (GA is relative when we say really good) they might be.
Any GA DC comics are definitely worth looking in to, the older "funny" comics are probably less so unless they feature something cool like the first appearance of Blondie or Popeye or something like that (in comic books).

Thanks for the information! I am going to send the DC stuff in for grading, I suppose "CGC" looks to be the place.

I wouldn't necessarily grade all of them out of hand. It would be worth the time to look up each book in the price guide here. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's valuable to the mass market. How many books did you find? A dozen? A couple hundred?
CGC is good but pricey. And they seem to take forever to get your books back to you. I'm talking months here. CBCS is pretty much the only alternative to consider. Cheaper and faster turnaround, but they don't always fetch the same price at auction if you are trying to sell.

So far we have located 27 books, 4 are DC. The others are a mix of Dell and other stuff, the books are from 1943 to 1945. Looks to be untouched from that era and burred deep in a hoard of other junk. Thanks for the info, it's been fun learning about the process!

Very nice books, how much do you want for them? Before grading

Damn. That is one hell of a find. Just those 4 books would easily sell for $4000 - $6000 just how they are. Probably double when graded. Would love to see pics of the other ones you found. These are gorgeous!
I was looking through what you've cataloged and it looks like some of the cover pictures in the database are pretty rough. If you want to leave your mark on the world here, see if you can't grab some well lit, straight on photos, or better yet, use a scanner. Someone here can then replace the existing images with ones of your books. edited by glorkar on 7/26/2022

or, 'someone' (@casper0312) could just go copy the decent pics off comics.org: All Star Comics 26: https://www.comics.org/issue/4588/cover/4/ Detective Comics 98: https://www.comics.org/issue/4330/cover/4/ Action 89: https://www.comics.org/issue/4587/cover/4/ Their Batman 31 pic was crooked. many golden age pics here could use replacing, so understandable that admins only have so much time and replacing pics is not a top priority, and would be a full time job for a while.
Mighty decent looking books Snapshot, good luck with them. edited by collectibleshop on 7/26/2022

That's some really good information on comics.org, thank you! It's been fun learning about the world of comics!
I will scan the covers and take some good photos, I ordered some comic bags and boards to keep them in.
A few more pics... the WW2 themes are very interesting.

Be aware CGC has a year or more turn around time as they have been slammed with folks submitting comic during COVID. I have been waiting on three books for 18 months. Might think about the other grading companies and their turn around times.

the OP's books would go in Express or Walk-thru tiers, which are are a couple weeks or less turnaround times. they should be PRESSED first, and CGC's pressing service page says their Express and Walk thru turnaround times are 34 days and 19 days, not sure how accurate that is in actuality. but high dollar stuff goes in the faster tiers, so no 'takes a year' for them. he'll get more selling $ out them using CGC too.

That is very helpful, I was not sure about the pressing. I was just going through the submission form, seems like screening will let them determine best pressing options. Yikes... sticker shock! I had not paid attention to the Express or Walk-Through part. It's pretty pricey to put them through the process, Wowza.

Yeah, the higher tiers are pretty pricey. But when you consider that your $2000 book will be worth $4000 after, it makes you feel a little better about it

Comicspriceguide.com ( this website ) actually has a pressing service that does an awesome job, for a great price!

I agree with CPG as a great pressing service.
Also, if you want pressing and grading, CBCS is a far better service as far as pressing goes. The prices might be a little lower in general for sale (but that has been evening out recently) than CGC though. But when we say a little lower, we're talking, as of recently, 1-2% at absolute most.

That's worth looking into I appreciate the information! I have a submission kit from CGC coming and have not sent anything yet. I notice watching YouTube videos of collections (and here on CPG) many are ungraded? This brings me to my next question.. what is the best way to preserve the comics? Is the encapsulation done when graded the way to go, or maybe not? I was reading the thread on polybag damage right after I put them all in polybags on acid free backing (BCW Golden Age poly and backers). I understand the monetary value may increase, but what is best for the book? I suppose that is a whole different thread..
Thanks again for all the info!
