The first issue was really fun, because it was both a spoof and not a spoof of Frank Miller, and the turtles were written in/around the Daredevil origin story.

After that, I just never was caught up in the "fun" I guess. People say I have no sense of humor, sometimes. (I think find lots of stuff funny.)

Now, I just look at how much the Turtles have been in, and I 'just don't get it'.

I remember when TMNT #1 came out. There was a stack of about 100 copies on the shelf. I considered getting it since I got the joke, but it was B&W. I was not wanting to collect B&W comics. I passed on getting it but smiled a little at seeing it.

Shortly afterwards, I quit collecting comics and forgot about the characters. One day a musician friend asked me if I wanted to buy a cassette of music he'd produced for another guy we both knew. I said "yes" and the name of the band was "TMNT" I asked how they knew about TMNT and he confirmed it was based on the comic characters. I was stunned. I didn't know anyone else had ever heard of them.

So many incarnations hard to keep up. Started out as adult satire, turned semi-serious, went all kid friendly with Archie comics and Nickelodeon.
Team Ups with Batman went serious by not believable. (Hey - why not). It is what it is. Fictional characters. Go back to original premise. Don't take too serious.

I remember watching the animated series from the 80/90's (?) and read a few of the comics back then but not much until recently with the Last Ronin.

I'm honestly surprised they are still a thing. They were toys and a cartoon for me growing up.
I get the whole nostalgia thing, but who would have thought they'd be this popular still. Same goes for GI Joe.
