Hi. I'm pretty new to the grading process and I wanted to get some other opinions on an apparent defect. I am considering making an offer on a comic that looks to be in good condition, especially on the front and interior. But, there is some discoloration on the back cover especially near the spine about 3-4 inches long, maybe 1/4 inch wide. See attached pictures. How do you think a dark discoloration on the back cover might affect a grade?

Thanks!

Does this look like foxing, maybe mold, handling wear, rubs, or maybe water damage? Would it be considered slight or minor, or is this more significant? Could it be called widespread? Could these marks be indicative of some more severe damage? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

That looks like water damage to me, which would dramatically change the grade. It isn't slight. Back cover damage is treated exactly like front cover damage when grading. Ron
