I have a GOLD membership and I would like to know if the membership automatically renews after the year is up? I am hoping so, as I don't want to have to re-enter all my books, notes etc..

Regardless of which premium plan that you're on, your books and notes are safe. We do not quickly delete everyone's stuff after a day or two. That would be disheartening to collectors to have all that work destroyed. We are collectors too.
