I look forward to breaking into the top 24 but for that to happen, some golden age Batman and Detective need to start jumping. Either that or I start getting more books graded.

Dear Basement (*EEIG) think of it as a contribution to the world economic order the World convention on international trade depends on us all doing our part to generate commerce. Go buy a comic book -the more expensive the better-------------- go get your comics graded- buy plastic book holders- pencils- pens- the world awaits your response- Bankers around the world will applaud you. You will have done your job for stabilizing the international world economy

Hey Ruk, I'm doing my part. I would love to get more graded but I am not comfortable sending books through the mail. I would prefer to deal with CGC/CBCS at a convention but those aren't happening right now. I did talk to a comic book shop and the guy told me I could send stuff through him. When I asked if the books were returned insured based on the submitted value or the new value as we all know graded books are worth more, he told me there was no difference. I turned and looked at the rack with his graded books and wondered to myself "If books that are graded are worth the same as ungraded, why are these $10 books being sold for $90"? I won't use them for sure. I just have to find a LCS I trust.

Dear Basement(*EEIG) what a confusing story. Reminds me that the Red Queen says to Alice " In our world you have to keep running to stay in the same place." Let me try and understand this dilemma? So you go to Grade- after much thought - they tell you the comic sells for more when purchased from the Dealer by Third Parties but not for you when you go in alone-?
"Remarkable my dear Watson............" However-to be fair to all-the dealer does have costs-heat-light-rent-salary?
Maybe in the end-your idea for finding a new dealer is clever. edited by ruk on 6/12/2020

Hey Ruk, I'm doing my part. I would love to get more graded but I am not comfortable sending books through the mail. I would prefer to deal with CGC/CBCS at a convention but those aren't happening right now. I did talk to a comic book shop and the guy told me I could send stuff through him. The recent trend of grading brand new comics in the hope of getting a 9.8 grade is one reason there is the misconception that slabbed books are worth more. The same people act like a book that "only" graded 9.2 - 9.6 is practically worthless. The truth is that there is little, if any, difference in books graded that high. I can see where on a high grade, semi rare key comic, a person would be willing to pay extra for the expert analysis of a book to assure there was no restoration. Yet CGC has somehow convinced people that by getting their opinion and sealing in a plastic holder justifies selling for sometimes double the price of a raw copy that's just as nice. You will notice that the comic dealers with a reputation for tough, consistent grading usually sell raw and slabbed books of the same grade at close to the same price. Don't fall for the bullshit. Grading is too imprecise and inconsistent as long as there are humans involved in the evaluation process. Around 2000, some smart people saw an opportunity to make the comic collecting hobby appear more "official" by grading and recording the results for posterity, did a good job marketing the idea, and have convinced people they are a critical service. They had the perfect base market to, because who is more anal about their things than comic people? Some people are getting richer and richer every day because of it, even though there is no organization that can teach, test, and certify a person as a professional grader who meets all standards for all collectors and sellers worldwide.

Wow Basement(*EEIG) quite a dissertation Look-I buy mainly Golden age or even Platinum-if that is the name for early stuff I go for rarity I go for census data which CGC provides and Gerber Rarity-which is my Bible on collecting. So none of those books at 9.8-maybe a few from Mile High or his ilk-but usually you get an 8.0 as top of the class. Heck I have stuff that is almost unique. so who cares if it is 3.0 if no one in the world has seen it-even Gerber has not seen it. So Bravo for your remarks- I have an ASM 129 that is in perfect shape- up in Canada I saw it on a dealers shelf for unheard of amounts -Canadian $ s of course-- and then I see it sell for even more at Auction.-US $ of course-- But I have not graded it. Too many out there.................... edited by ruk on 6/19/2020
