Sorting is by Publisher, and 1 box of "Misc Publishers". Then alphabetical. But I don't put "Extraordinary X-Men" under "E" and "All-New X-Men" under "A"... they all go under "X".

I make my own dividers for titles. I only label boxes with the publisher name.

When I started filling up boxes years ago, a bought a lot and only filled them half-way. Shifting (take some out of box #13 and put them in #12... take a few out of #14 and put them in #13... etc) sometimes has to be done. Sometimes. When I put a new box for Spider-Man before Spider-Woman, I won't shift stuff back from Spider-Woman because I know I'll be buying a lot more ASM to FILL that box!

I use CPG and my own created Access DB because it has fields for Age (Golden, Silver, etc), Writer, Artist, Notes, etc. I can also sort a Report on my ENTIRE collection (or just 1 publisher) any way I want, like by age, by value, etc. Which is REALLY nice --- Hint Hint Hint CPG !!!!

My biggest problem is deciding if I want all of one character together. I cant seem to decide if I want Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, Avenging Spider-Man etc all in one place or strictly alphabetically. Currently I have them all alphabetical, but it might make more sense if they are all grouped together. The more you get, the more that it makes more sense to do it like you are.

I will admit that my Uncanny X-men are filed under 'X' not 'U'. I'm not going to split the series and have half filed under one letter and half under the other.

Some are just labeled as Indy books while some are just the big two, DC and Marvel books. Then there are boxes that are labeled by era's, silver, bronze, and modern books.
It's a huge task bagging and board. I've tried to stay up with that as a I go, but eventually there is an aesthetic need to re-bag and re-board stuff. I have many odd shaped items that are difficult to organize. I have a good idea of what I want to sell, but some are best sold as sets, I might have a box with 5 issues from a 6 issue series. I need to locate that 6th issue in order to sell a set. I have the issue, I just need to find which box it's in.

My comics are what I inherited from my dad, and even though I know what's in the boxes they're not totally sorted at this point. My dad was an acquisitions librarian who was very fond of science fiction books, pulps, big little books, and (of course) comics, so of course he amassed this huge collection. I still remember in 1986 or 87 at an estate sale he bought about 500-750 comic books for 5 cents each. Among those comics: Iron Man #1 (he already had a copy), Tomb of Dracula #10, Defenders #1, Iron Man #55, Marvel Superheroes #18, etc., etc... The biggest issue (no pun intended) has been bagging and boarding them since they were stored flat for about 20 years (but with remarkably little damage), and then trying to decide what to keep/sell.

When I first started collecting, I listed all of my books once I purchase them in a hard copy list using pen and paper. I used to keep all of my books in alphabetical and numerical order and simply expanded into new boxes as needed. Over time this became very time consuming and impractical since I was constantly adding new books.
Now, I still maintain my hard copy list, but I now use the box function under CPG and have unique numbers written on each of my boxes that match these unique numbers. Each box is organized alphabetically and once a box is filled to capacity, I simply move to a new box and start the process again.

For physical ordering I have my collection sectioned off into DC, Marvel, and Other and then alphabetically within each section. I store everything in long boxes on a specially built triple deck shelf.

For cataloging I use Comic Collectorz. I don't worry about grading and pricing anything and at this point that would take a real long time, well the grading anyway. If I am selling anything then I grade it and check various sources for going prices and price it in that range.

I also have the mobile version of Collectorz (CLZ) which is great because you can log books in with it, make want lists, etc. No more carrying stupid paper lists around.
