It is keyed off the HRN (Highest Reorder Number), which is the number on the reprint order form on the back of the book, or inside the back cover. It is a little weird. So, all issues of Les Miserables will be #9, but the print is determined by the HRN such as 14 18 20. When searching, search for "Classics Illustrated #9" or "Les Miserables". They will all be issue #1 in the database and the comment identifies the HRN. Note, some have a space after the # (such as the 84 above)

Classics Illustrated #9 - Les Miserables [HRN 51]

-David

ok, will try to remember that for the next person, but that's just a weird way to do it in my opinion. and I couldn't get them to come up before with just the story title because the OP had it as Golden instead of Gold, and midsummers instead of midsummer, so it helps when the spelling is correct. so they come up using the story title, but ya gotta spell it right.
thanks David.

Maccollectibles wrote:

classics illustrated
#84 the golden bug and other stories
#87 a midsummers nights dream
both from 1951...am i doing something wrong...i cant find them

this/these series cause more trouble than just about anything. for some reason, if you search classics illustrated in the title field, and 84 in the issue field, you get nothing. if you put the title AND issue number in the title field, it comes up. but that's not how the search should work, so dunno if it's a programming error or bug. Or just search Classics Illustrated in the title and scroll down the results, not sure why people don't think to do that.
#84 is here: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/classics-illustrated-84--the-gold-bug-and-other-stories/1/pcwujw
#87 1951 issues are here: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/classics-illustrated-87--a-midsummer-nights-dream/2/pcwuhu

Classic Comics and Classics Illustrated were created in a weird sort of way. Changing the title to Classics Illustrated, changing minor details, dates, or prices, and then reprinting them over and over again, causes a lot of confusion. We should probably look at a way to better organize them but it isn't near the top of our to-do list.
Ron

none of them are missing, but the early ones are under Classic Comics. note the note in the subtitle: "All editions after 3/1947 titled 'Classics Illustrated'. this one is 1946, cover still says Classic Comics for the 1st edition, then later changes to Classics Illustrated. Yes it's confusing and hard to find some of these due to this. always try fewer keywords too. just using Black Arrow 31 finds it: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/classic-comics-31---the-black-arrow/pnvpm
