Pacino wrote:

Hmmm..what issue did you show a $42 loss on? I can see if there is anything unusual there

It was X-Men 129B in grade 7.5 and the drop was actually $48 (my bad in the previous post). I use a spreadsheet to track the values so the reported increase was accurate. Thanks for any help. This has been going on for a while.

I think that I can give you a specific example to show how you might see an increase in overall value but a drop.

We use different tools to help us speed up the process. One of them is an automated system that gives a set of %'s for each value based on decades of research. Those are just the starting point and then someone like me goes in and refines it for a specific book. For example you have an X-men that went up from 100 to 150, then in the refining process someone changed the value to 147. In that case your collection would have gone up +$47 but the book would have shown a loss of $3. The gains and losses track from the last change. So what you're seeing is someone specifically and carefully changing the specific grade of a book you own. This is actually a good thing.

Ron

Pacino wrote:

Two rare occurrences that might cause this. One is that there were duplicate listings of the same comic in the system, each with a different value, and an administrator merged the two listings...your comic would have moved into that merged listing and if it didn't have the same value it wouldn't show as a value change. Two, when making a valuation change an administrator either didn't like the value the algorithm spewed out for all grades and manually changed a few, or an error was made and corrected...you would only see the change from the most recent adjustment. This is not something I would expect to see on a regular basis though, but it does happen

I don't know what's going on but it happened again. I've been checking every day and my collection increased in value by $97 today. This was the first change since 6/18. I checked the gains and drops. It showed only one value change, and that was a LOSS of $42.

If you are a paying member there are two places where you can see value changes.
The recent value change page
https://comicspriceguide.com/value-changes/

This page only shows the books that had a change in the raw 9.4 So yesterday we adjusted some lower grades up but kept the 9.4 at the same price. That change won't appear on the recent value change page.

The second page that shows more specific information is the My gains and drops page
https://comicspriceguide.com/gains-drops/

This page shows the gains and drops for your specific book in the grade you have cataloged. If you have a 5.0 that went up you can see it there. It's much more specific to your collection.
I hope that helps,
Ron

Sometimes I'll see that my collection has increased in value by, say, $50, without adding any comics to the database. Am I doing something incorrectly?

The gains and loss page only shows the last 15 days and the drop down box only shows the last 10 changes so maybe it's possible you have a total value change from gains and losses but some are past the 15 days and not showing and that page since it's past the 15 days since the change occurred? I'm guessing here so maybe it's something else.
