Within each item in your collection there is an "issue notes" that is personal to you. This should be searchable by the "stored searches", too. If I were designing the feature from scratch I would prefer to have a list of terms that an account owner can define for themselves, so that searching is not over a loose text field with inconsistent data entry. But that's me.

Okay, so to scope out this kind of feature, we'd need to define it better.

First, we're not really talking about boxes for the new feature. "Boxes" are physical storage locations, and generally a user's personal holdings is the "collection".

Could "collection" be a name for a feature that users define for themselves? It's not a bad word, but it would mean finding all uses of the word "collection" in the current site and app(s) and thinking about whether another word needs to be used to avoid confusion. Or a new word is defined for the feature, like "Annotation"

The next question is whether "Annotations" are personal to the account, or whether the community would benefit from the "Annotation". This is tricky. If I want to keep a list of the comics that came out of my grandfather's basement, it's not great for everyone else (unless your grandfather's comics become known as a famous collection), but if you want a list of "Joker Covers" or "Venom Appearances" then that might be useful to everyone.

For example, look at "Facts:" on House of Secrets #92: https://comicspriceguide.com/titles/house-of-secrets/92/vcqpo

The second part is also very similar to a feature Ron is already working on, "Story Arcs", but also not real far off from what "Creators" and "Characters" are to the CPG site.

Some versions of the feature are sort of like "stored search definitions" though. "Show me a list of Joker covers in my collection." --or-- "Show me a list of Joker covers not in my collection".

What would make all of this work well is 3 things:

Users help build out the Story Arcs, Characters and Creators data possibly by crowdsourcing the info via a ranking system that keeps user contributed suggestions out until they have been "thumbs-ed up" by a certain number of users with weighting by the users' member ranking.... HEY! Maybe everyone could actually work (harder) on the "Verify Data" feature that improves all of the facts on the issues!

Users desire a personal "Annotation" feature where they can keep private notes about specific books in their collection.

Users want a feature that stores "searches" that execute on each demand, and those searches can be defined to search all the terms: Annotations, Story Arcs, Characters, Creators, titles, publishers ...

I don't know how much work it would take, I'm not a DB guy. But, it seems like if every issue has a unique identifier like 1150385, then it should be easy enough in the tables to allow for it to connect to multiple unique ID's for storage no? i.e... 1150385 -> 11457(box 4 in ronbatman's collection) and 554678 (box 8 in ronbatman's collection). Like I said, maybe I'm oversimplyfing. But man it would be cool to have the ability to cross reference, etc....

If not, I'm sure I'll live, been doing fine so far.

Did someone light the Batsignal?

You cannot put one book in multiple boxes. It was originally designed to mimic the real world. Enabling people with large collections to easily find their books or for collectors to organize by anything. (date, author, artist, title, etc) I think the idea is interesting but it would have to be done differently. Each book has an individual identifier (database necessary) For example Marvel Action: Avengers #1 uses this number 1150385 to differentiate it from any other book.

You could add the book into your collection twice and then put it in a second box. Your collection totals would be off but that would accomplish your goal.
R

When you try to sort it only lets you pick one box, there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for adding 1 comic to a 2nd box, or 3rd box, etc... I could just be missing it, I'll check the videos out to be sure.

And I was kinda hoping Ron would respond here. But if he doesn't, I will email him. Thanks for your help.

I did some forum searches, and found others with this question, but no real answers for some reason. see this thread for the list of CPG How To videos and see if one of them will tell you if it's possible.
https://comicspriceguide.com/forum/topic15532-new-comics-price-guide-instructional-videos.aspx

I assume you've tried doing it, but what does the system tell you then? That you already have it, so it won't let you add it again? Seems it should not care as long as you're adding it in another box, but I don't have any boxes, so haven't fooled with that feature.

Ronbatman can tell you, so message him thru his profile: https://comicspriceguide.com/members/Ronbatman , or email him at ron [@] comicspriceguide.com, and put that in your address book for the future.
edited by collectibleshop on 2/22/2021

Not sure it's actually an "issue" but I didn't really see any other forum that seemed to fit the bill here.

Would be awesome if we could put individual issues in to more than one box as part of our collections.

For instance, if I have a CGC slabbed Golden Lad #1 I'd love to be able to put it in a "Golden Age" box and a "Professionally Graded" box, or something along those lines. As of now, unless I'm missing it (which is way too possible), I can only put it in one of those.

Thanks
