Not the fat regular Previews catalog, but the comic sized Marvel & DC inserts. First cover appearance? Deadpools Secret Wars, naturally. BUT, she was only on the cover, and not as an actual character in any comic. More of a homage to COSPLAY people who were dressed that way.
Her first "Appearance" as an actual character was in Howard the Duck #1
So with that being said, which comic do you all feel should be the one to go after? They both fit the bill as first appearances, but in different ways
This is just my opinion, and as I have both issues, its not going to affect me either way.

An appearance before they were "the" character we commonly know. Like shown as a baby, or before they got powers.
First cameo appearance. Normally a single panel of the story.
First full appearance. This is almost always the most valuable version.

Now, if you want to get into the weeds. Start asking, what the first Venom appearance is.

First sketch of black costume.
First black costume Spider-Man.
First cameo of Eddie Brock. It is his hand only, and retconned to be him. It is also a girls hand.
First cameo of Venom. Only as a shadowy arm.
First preview of Venom.
First cameo of Venom.

The Marvel Previews for X-23 is bringing in some money. Also the one for Ultimate FF

Books get preview or ad boosts all the time. There are like 5 books that have an in house ad for Hulk #181 that people are going nuts over.
