Gentlemen,
My wife recently purchased a stellar issue of Walking Dead #1 for my birthday, and I was amazed by how much she paid for it on Ebay. Wizard has it for $150, Overtreet has it for $40 and CPG has it for $80. I was just curious if the price needed to be adjusted for the recent demand on the market.
Thanks,
Kevin

I don't know if anyone really knows the value right now,

I think that values of all the early Walking Dead Comics are up in the air (#1-#11?). I wish they could be pinned down, but I couldn't imagine how all the guys who participate in running this price guide get around to adding and fixing everything on this database everyday. Kudos to them.

Here is a recently ended ebay listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270509383725&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

#3 and #4 sold for over $95 together and I've not seen either go for less than near $40 singly. And it's totally laughable what comic stores like mycomicshop are offering for some of the early WD comics in trade. Not even $30 for #1.

Reasoning behind value increase?

There are a couple:

1. The early issues did not have very large print runs, so they are kinda scarce. They are easily some of the most valuable and sought after moderns produced. Here's a #2 that just sold for nearly $80:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200424543082&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

2. "The Walking Dead" is now in production for AMC. You can see more about it here:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3idee9d1f93a71c575a41c4f34f5a4176b
This is AMC's biggest development deal ever and Frank Darabont (Academy Award nominated director and writer) will write, direct and produce the project. That sounds MORE than promising. That is sure to send the values thru the roof (at least temporarily).

I was going to say that if this series wasn't made into a movie, it would probably plummet over the next decade much like Neil Gaiman's Sandman series did.

I could see that happening Aaron.

I think that this TV show is going to be awesome. I really do. AMC spared no expense on this one. That's always good. Maybe the attention from the TV series will spill over onto the comics making them even more sought after. Then it's all supply and demand.

WOW!!

Check it:

So...how long will the Walking Dead stay at these prices? I think that this series might be an anomaly.
